Mr. Patrick Graves is a founding partner with Graves & King LLP and has more than 35 years of experience as a civil litigation defense attorney, specializing in civil litigation. During the course of his career, Mr. Graves has handled complex personal injury/wrongful death cases, construction site accidents, governmental tort liability, including highway and flood control design and operation, and construction defect losses.

Mr. Graves, a life-long Southern California native, graduated from Charter Oak High School in Covina, California before earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State Polytechnic University in 1972. Mr. Graves then earned a Bachelor of Science in Law from Western State University College of Law in 1973. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law in 1975.

Mr. Graves is a member in good standing of the California Bar, the United States District Court in both the Central and Northern Districts of California, as well as the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He is also a member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsels. The ASCDC has repeatedly drawn upon Mr. Graves’ leadership skills, assigning him chairmanship of a wide range of specialized practice and general membership groups.

For seven years, between 1991-1998, Mr. Graves was a Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles Superior Court. He is currently a court appointed arbitrator in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Superior Courts, and a mediator in Los Angeles and Riverside Superior Courts.

During the course of his career Mr. Graves has been involved in major litigation such as the 1980 MGM Grand Hotel fire in Las Vegas, the 1989 Duffy Street train derailment and petroleum explosion in San Bernardino, the 2004 Saint Sophia flood, as well as the 1974 wrongful death suit involving the crash of an Air Force F-106 fighter aircraft.

In 1993, Mr. Graves, along with the late William King, founded Graves & King LLP with the belief that legal representation can be handled by a small firm in a more persona, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Mr. Graves enjoys living life outdoors, and looks for opportunities to fly fish, hike and bike ride whenever possible. Along with his wife, Marilyn, Mr. Graves has traveled around the country. In 1992, he and future law partner William King, teamed up to drive cross-country in the Great American Race, driving Mr. Graves’ 1929 Ford Model A from Charlotte, North Carolina to Costa Mesa, California.

Mr. Graves and his wife, Marilyn, make their home in San Juan Capistrano. They have two grown children.
